Tools of the Trade

Let’s suppose you have a friend across country, and you’d love to introduce the friend to our company. You know he/she would be a great hire and enjoy the work…but how would you describe what you do? What are the tools of your trade?

Products displayDisplays come in so many varied categories, a refresher course might be helpful. How many different kinds of displays do you see here?

  • Display bins or tables or stands are the staple
    of our trade.
  • Have you ever set up a cooler extender,
trying to catch the eyes of people buying soft drinks?
  • Clip strips display smaller items at eye level.
  • Stand alone displays feature one product meant
    to capture interest.
  • Island displays offer prominence and extra
    visibility.

Why would you want to share your work? If you don’t see the broader picture, you could dismiss what you do as grunt work with no real value…but you are so much more! You are the hands and feet of a company trying to help breadwinners in another place to make their mortgage payments and feed their families. Without your efforts, they’d be out of work! Realizing your place as being part of a living organism much larger than your lone efforts, helps you realize the benefit you offer others.

A company with a list of employees and their email or phone numbers is like a hierarchy with no heart or soul. A growing company is alive. It has a heartbeat, someone who infuses others with joy. It has a brainiac, someone full of great ideas. It has muscle, the people creating and moving product. And most importantly, it has hands and feet. You may have no direct connection with the rest of the body, but you are no less important.

Without you, buyers would never interact with the brand. Sales would never be made. Income would grind to a halt. Realizing the value of your effort is part of not just doing your job, but doing it well. A display that moves product ensures jobs for everyone from the top of the company to hands and feet like yours, moving it down the line.

Brands work hard to create an image, customer recognition, and a consistent way to interact with buyers. Think about the way companies put themselves out there: One may rely on a colorful logo, another on the fact that they are eco-friendly. You want to protect their branding while introducing them to prospective customers. This is what you share with your friends: Be part of a team that keeps people working, building a brand into a hot commodity and doing it independently. Those are winning words!
